sri lanka

Today is going to be a good day!! It’s Thursday so it’s gotta be praise day.  But first, let’s talk about two of my favorite things about summer. Stripes and vivacious prints. Why not mix them? This shirt displays a fantastic mix of tripes and flower print that looks like the Sri Lankan alphabet.

The shirt is huge and gives the body lots of room to breathe in the humid heat of the Diamond City (DC). Worn with a light orange necklace, a gold bracelet and old beaten up ballet flats from Urban Outfitters.

I believe it is Inès de la Fressange, the self-proclaimed expert Parisienne, who just published a book about “how to be Parisian,” something I hope was a tongue-in-cheek effort, said one must never wear new flats. Truly chic is wearing your battered up ballets with a nicely tailored piece. I love that. I do like to mix the old and new, the meticulous and funky, the dark and outrageously bright.

And what will you tell me about that car? Beautiful no? I figured my neighbor wouldn’t mind me using it as a prop in these photos. I took them in the afternoon right before the skies began to crack with thunder, sputtering down a hard rain that made the evening smell of wet cement.  I love that fresh smell after the rain.

me, myself, and I

a way in the rain

My first multiplicity ever! I love this technique because I can make more dynamic pictures when I only have myself as a subject. I love the way it turned out. But, naturally, as per Murphy’s Law the day I planned to shoot this it rained so the light is not what I had hoped for but it was great to start here.

I got lucky with the details in this picture. There are four umbrellas. Can you spot the hidden, accidental one?

I have always wanted to splash around in the rain barefoot. Call it a cinema-inspired fantasy. This project was the perfect excuse.

I shot this on the steps of my apartment building. A some point a few smokers gathered and stared. They were polite and avoided my tripod. I even found out that one neighbor is a professional cameraman. Now I know where to go if I have any technical questions…Good end to the day :)
